Overview

In its National Policy Framework titled "Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour," Sri Lanka has recognized the establishment of a 'Technology-based society' as a crucial national endeavour. This initiative is part of a set of 10 key policies aimed at attaining four main objectives: fostering a productive citizenry, promoting happy families, cultivating a disciplined and fair society, and achieving national prosperity.

The country aims to transform towards a creative knowledge-based society through digitally empowered citizens, under the vision of a Digitally Inclusive Sri Lanka, with a citizen-centric digital government for the convenience of every Sri Lankan.

Sri Lanka's technology sector relies significantly on business process outsourcing and the development of tailored software solutions. As a step towards transformation into a digital economy, ICTA is looking at moving the industry towards high-end product engineering and IP creation through innovation and startup initiatives.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has experienced significant economic growth over the past few years, with an average annual GDP growth rate of around 6-7%. The country has a large population and a young workforce, which provides a strong foundation for economic growth.

Sri Lanka is one of the few SAARC countries that initiated Digital Sri Lanka as early as 2008. Sri Lanka has seen significant interest from IT-ITeS players in the recent years. The domestic IT ITeS industry in Sri Lanka is currently valued at US$0.9-1.1 billion and is expected to grow five fold to reach US$4.6-4.8 billion by 2025.

It is empowering its resources by its advanced, robust training programs on Intelligent Enterprise, Digital Trust, Cyber Security and SMAC (Social Media, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud) and Robotics. After a significant push from the Sri Lanka Government's vision for a 'Digital Sri Lanka,' enterprises in Sri Lanka have adopted the latest technological advancements to support the government's vision.
